ALL, HOWEVER ARE PRESENT. FULL LEATHER BINDING, SPINE LABELS IN TACT AND LEGIBLE. MARGINAL NOTES AND UNDERLINING IMPACTING PERHAPS 10 PAGES. MODERATE FOXING AS IS TO BE EXPECTED. CANDIDATE FOR REBINDING. SOME NOTABLE ASSOCIATIONS;
- WILLIAM FIRTH; HE HAS SIGNED BOTH COPIES ON THE FIRST FREE END PAPER. SIGNATURES INCOMPLETELY CROSSED OUT, AS IS THE LINE DIRECTLY BELOW IN WHICH IS WRITTEN APPARENTLY; "IN HOSPIST LINCOLN". FIRTH, A BRITISH LAWYER WAS ADMITTED TO "LINCOLN'S INN" UPON COMPLETING HIS STUDIES IN ENGLAND TO QUALIFY AS A LAWYER. COMING TO CANADA, HE SERVED UNHAPPILY, FOR 4 YRS AS ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR UPPER CANADA. THE THIRD MAN TO HOLD THIS POSITION. UPON RETURN TO ENGLAND IN 1811, HE RESUMED HIS LEGAL PRACTICE THERE - HE WAS NEVER TO RETURN TO CANADA.

- JOHN MACDONELL : "J. MACDONELL" JOHN MACDONELL FOLLOWED FIRTH AS ATTORNEY GENERAL. HE WAS TO RESIGN SHORTLY THEREAFTER TO ACCOMPANY GENERAL ISAAC BROCK AT THE OUTSET OF THE WAR OF 1812. HE PLAYED A PROMINENT ROLE IN NEGOTIATIONS LEADING TO THE AMERICAN SURRENDER AT DETROIT, THE FIRST MAJOR EVENT OF THAT WAR. BARELY 2 MONTHS LATER, HE WAS TO DIE AT THE BATTLE OF QUEENSTON HEIGHTS ON THE SAME DAY AS DID BROCK. BOTH WERE BURIED TOGETHER UNDERNEATH THE BROCK MEMORIAL AT QUEENSTON. HIS SIGNATURE APPEARS IN BOTH BOOKS ON THE BLANK PAGE PRECEDING THE TITLE PAGE.
- SAMUEL PETERS JARVIS " SAM. P. JARVIS " ANOTHER CONTROVERSIAL LAWYER WHO PRACTICED DURING THE EARLY HISTORY OF UPPER CANADA. THOUGHT TO BE A CORRUPT GOVERNMENTAL MINISTER, TWO EVENTS DEFINE HIS HISTORY; AS A MAN IN HIS LATE 40'S HE KILLED HIS DECADES YOUNGER OPPONENT IN A DUEL CONDUCTED WITH PISTOLS. HE WAS WIDELY VILLIFIED IN THE TINY COMMUNITY OF YORK, WHERE HE LIVED AND THE DUEL TOOK PLACE. SOME NINE YEARS LATER, HE LED A GROUP OF YOUNG MEN TO THE OFFICES OF WILLIAM LYON MACKENZIE'S NEWSPAPER, "THE COLONIAL ADVOCATE" AND PROCEEDED TO THROW THE MOVABLE TYPE INTO LAKE ONTARIO. FOUND RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS UNLAWFUL ACT, HE WAS REQUIRED TO PAY MACKENZIE A CONSIDERABLE SUM OF MONEY, WHICH, IRONICALLY, RESTORED THE JOURNALIST TO FINANCIAL SOLVENCY!
